AIDC exec director stepping down

Joost den Hartog, executive director of the Australian International Documentary Conference (AIDC) organization, is stepping down from the post after a decade with the company.

Den Hartog had been the longest serving exec director for the international conference, which was established in 1987 and this year, has been rebranded as Net-Work-Play, a move geared towards examining the intersection between digital and streaming technology and the factual content industry. The event is currently underway in Adelaide.

Den Hartog is heading to Australian on-demand science channel, RiAus, as digital content manager. The AIDC board will commence a search for a new executive director in the coming weeks.

“Under his leadership the conference, market and screening program has grown into a key annual event on the international screen industry calendar,” said AIDC co-chair Karena Slaninka in a statement. “Joost has been a dedicated and enthusiastic leader of the organization and we acknowledge his invaluable contribution to the Australian documentary industry.”

“The support I have received from the people I have worked with over the years, the
AIDC board, and the Australian documentary community has been such an amazing experience,” added den Hartog. “I will be sad to leave this organization, but I trust I will still be part of the great Australian production community through my new role at RiAus, the Australian Science Channel.”
