Channel 4 takes equity stake in Renowned Films

UK pubcaster Channel 4 has taken out another investment from its £20 million Growth Fund, this time for an equity stake in independent prodco Renowned Films.

Renowned, formed by Duane Jones, Max Welch and Tim Withers (pictured), is the team behind the London Live series F2 Kicks Off, which featured footballers Billy Wingrove and Jeremy Lynch, and another football series, Winner’s Circle, for Sky.

The prodco is currently in development on several projects for BBC3, ITV, MTV UK and 4Music.

“Renowned Films are an exciting addition to our expanding Growth Fund investment portfolio,” said Channel 4 chief executive David Abraham in a statement. “Duane, Max and Tim are a passionate and ambitious team with an appetite to create compelling formats across both new and traditional media platforms to inspire young audiences globally. We’re looking forward to working with this talented young indie to help push them to the next level.”

In addition, Channel 4 has signed a development partnership with Hillsborough Remembered prodco Brassneck TV, founded by executive producer John Osborne, filmmaker Don Letts and sports broadcaster Kelly Cates. Previous Growth Fund investments have been made in UK indies Arrow Media, Eleven, Lightbox, Popkorn and True North.
