As a look at the television trades will tell you, rebooting former hits is de rigueur these days. But does a group of daytime and primetime soap opera stars have what it takes a reboot a genre?
The upcoming Queens of Drama , produced by ThinkFactory Media and premiering on U.S. cable net Pop on Sunday (April 26), will seek to answer that question by following several soap icons as they attempt to develop, produce and sell a primetime soap opera pilot over the course of 10 episodes.
The premiere episode, airing at 10 p.m. EST/7 p.m. PST, has an appropriate lead-in – the 42nd annual Daytime Emmy Awards. Following its debut, it will move to a regular time slot of Wednesdays at 8 p.m. EST/PST beginning April 29.
Cast members include Lindsay Hartley (All My Children, Days of Our Lives), Crystal Hunt (Guiding Light, One Life to Live), Vanessa Marcil (Las Vegas, General Hospital), Chrystee Pharris (Passions, General Hospital), Hunter Tylo (The Bold and The Beautiful) and Donna Mills (Knots Landing, Melrose Place).
“As a production company concurrently having major success in both the scripted and unscripted worlds, ThinkFactory is incredibly excited to be working with Pop on this unique project, the ultimate goal of which will be to produce a hit scripted series in conjunction with the unscripted series,” Reed tells realscreen.
