Science Channel appoints VP of development, production

Discovery Communications-owned network Science Channel has appointed Caroline Perez (pictured) as VP of development and production.

In her new position, Perez will be responsible for leading the development and production of new projects, while overseeing the network’s current slate through to delivery. She will also be charged with discovering writers, producers and talent for new programming.

Perez most recently served as VP of production and development at sister net Destination America, where she was part of the creative team behind the channel’s programming strategy. Prior to this, she served as director of production at TLC where her production credits include Four Weddings, Extreme Couponing, The Making of a Royal Wedding and DC Cupcakes.

Earlier, Perez served as the director of development and production at Viacom-owned net VH1.

“Caroline has spent more than six years at Discovery Communications and she knows the DNA of curiosity, awe and wonder in the many roles she’s had within the company,” said Science Channel GM Marc Etkind, to whom Perez reports. “It’s an exciting time for Science Channel as we revitalize and strengthen the brand, and Caroline’s dedication to developing innovative and imaginative programming is an asset to our growing team.”
