Propagate ramps up team with senior hires

Los Angeles content studio Propagate, spearheaded by co-CEOs Howard T. Owens and Ben Silverman, has made three exec hires, boosting its senior ranks with chief operating officer Ivan Garel-Jones, head of production Isabel San Vargas, and Linh Le in business development.

Ivan Garel-Jones (left) joins Propagate from ITV Studios U.S. Group, now ITV America, where he most recently held the post of executive vice president, business affairs. While there, he was part of the process in building ITV’s acquired roster of prodcos, and oversaw key negotiations for such series as Hell’s Kitchen and Duck Dynasty.

Isabel San Vargas (center), reporting to Garel-Jones, comes to Propagate from Pilgrim Studios, now Pilgrim Media Group, where she served as senior vice president of production, overseeing a broad slate that included at different points American Chopper, The Ultimate Fighter and Street Outlaws among other properties.

Linh Le (right) joins the business development team, also reporting to Garel-Jones. Coming to the company via stints at Fox Sports and National Geographic Channel, she will oversee strategic planning, partnership initiatives and new business ventures for Propagate, and will work alongside Jim Hoffman, EVP of strategic initiatives at A+E Networks, on branded content and marketing ventures.

“Over the past year, our development slate has grown significantly and a number of projects have begun production,” said Owens and Silverman in a joint statement. ‘To support and generate further growth, we are looking to build our production and management team with executives who bring diverse skills and expertise to the table. Ivan fits the bill perfectly. He was instrumental in building ITV America into the largest independent unscripted production company in the U.S. and we believe his business affairs, production and distribution experience will be invaluable to us.”

Among the titles Propagate has on its slate are the first unscripted series for Apple, in partnership with, Evil Geniuses and What The… (both w/t) for History; My So-Called Simple Life (w/t) for FYI; a docuseries with Vivica A. Fox for Lifetime; the shortform digital series Fall Into Me for A+E Networks; and National Geographic Wild’s Animal ER.

Silverman officially joined the company in April following his exit from Electus. Founded in 2015 by Owens, A+E Networks came on board as an equity investor at its launch.
