GoDigital-owned digital distributor has partnered with the International Documentary Association (IDA) to launch a quarterly grant program that will allow filmmakers the opportunity to distribute their content to major online platforms and retain rights and revenue.

The grant will be open to all films receiving fiscal sponsorship through the IDA, Pare Lorentz Documentary Fund grant recipients or films nominated for the IDA Documentary Awards. It will provide four filmmakers per year counsel and technical support for the direct distribution of their projects to such digital distribution portals as iTunes, Google Play, Hulu, Amazon Prime, Vudu and Netflix.

Josh Fox‘s How to Let Go of the World (and Love all the Things Climate Can’t Change) (pictured) will be the first project to be awarded the grant. The film, which premiered at this year’s Sundance and saw the director traveling to 12 countries on six continents to explore the effects of climate change, is slated to tour globally in 100 cities and will debut across HBO on June 27.

The Pare Lorentz grant supports full-length documentary films that exhibit objective research, artful storytelling, strong visual style, high production values, artistic writing and outstanding music composition, as well as skillful direction, camerawork and editing.
