ZDF Enterprises has acquired the distribution rights to Deep Undercover for Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Produced by Televisa USA and Bellum Entertainment, the 52 x 30-minute true crime series is fronted by Joe Pistone (a.k.a. Donnie Brasco), who presents the stories of real agents who have gone undercover around the world.

The first-person accounts are interspersed with expert and other interviews as well as with archival footage, photos, audio recordings and recreations.

Pistone is a former FBI agent who went undercover among New York City crime families in the late 1970s and early 1980s. He wrote a book based on his experiences that was later turned into the 1997 feature film Donnie Brasco starring Johnny Depp.

Broadcasters in the UK, France and Germany have picked up the series, which is still in production.

Mary Carole McDonnell from Bellum Entertainment, Chris Philip from Televisa USA, Peter McDonnell and Pistone are producing.

Deep Undercover will premiere in the fall.
