Spike readies Derik Murray’s “I Am JFK Jr.”

Viacom-owned cable network Spike TV has set an August premiere date for Derik Murray‘s forthcoming documentary I Am JFK Jr. (pictured).

Produced by Network Entertainment, the film will recount the life and untimely death of John F. Kennedy Jr., the late son of President John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy, through archive footage, personal photographs and featured interviews with A-list celebrities and former staffers.

The film will feature exclusive interviews with a wide array of JFK Jr.’s friends, including Robert De Niro, Cindy Crawford, Mike Tyson, Larry Flynt, Christiane Amanpour, Chris Cuomo, Paul Begala, Ann Coulter and Grateful Dead songwriter John Perry Barlow, as well as former colleagues at glossy political magazine George, New York restaurateur Richie Notar, and former Chief of Staff RoseMarie Terenzio.

Paul Gertz, Kent Wingerak and Robert Pirooz serve as executive producers on the doc, alongside RoseMarie Terenzio and Spike’s Kevin Kay, Jon Slusser and Jaimee Kosanke.

I Am JFK Jr. is scheduled to debut on August 1 at 9 p.m. EST/PST on Spike.

The film will enjoy a limited theatrical run beginning July 20 with Virgil Films as the distributor, followed by a Digital HD release on August 2 and a DVD release on August 16.

I Am JFK Jr. is the latest in a wave of “I Am” projects from Murray, who previously directed and produced I Am Chris Farley, I Am Evel Knievel, I Am Steve McQueen and I Am Bruce Lee.
