U.S. commercial broadcaster NBC has teamed with actor, singer and dancer Jennifer Lopez (pictured) on the dance competition series World of Dance.

Produced by NBC’s in-house production arm Universal Television Alternative Studios in association with Lopez’s Nuyorican Productions, the 10-part series will pit some of the world’s best dancers in head-to-head competition as they vie for the chance to win a grand prize of US$1 million.

In partnership with global dance brand World of Dance, solo artists will compete against duos and crews in a variety of choreography types, from hip hop, tap and ballet to krumping, popping and locking.

Each dancer will be divided into three divisions, including Junior, which encompasses competitors 16 years and under; Upper, concerning groups of one to four members, 16 years and over; and Team, consisting of groups of five-plus, over 16 years. All acts will be scored by a panel of judges who will focus on such criteria as routine, execution, presentation and crowd appeal.

Emmy Award-winning choreographers Napoleon and Tabitha D’umo, best known as Nappytabs, will also be featured in the series.

Executive producers include Lopez, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, Benny Medina, Kris Curry, Matilda Zoltowski, David Gonzalez, Matthew Everitt and Al Hassas.
