Lifetime walks catwalk on “Project Runway” spin-off

Budding entrepreneurs take on fashion and beauty titans in a new series, Project Runway: Fashion Startup (pictured), set to premiere Oct. 20 on Lifetime.

A spin-off to Lifetime’s Project Runway is set to make its debut next month, showcasing aspiring fashion and beauty entrepreneurs as they pitch their concepts for the chance to secure funds from a panel of industry experts.

Project Runway: Fashion Startup is set to bow on the cable network Oct. 20 at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT.

The panel (pictured) includes Katia Beauchamp, co-founder and CEO of beauty retailer Birchbox; tech marketplace maven and CEO of plus-size clothing rental startup Gwynnie Bee, Christine Hunsicker; fashion designer Rebecca Minkoff; and business mentor of the CFDA Incubator program, CEO of Hilldun Corporation and chair of Interluxe Holdings LLC, Gary Wassner.

With their own time and money on the line, the panel members are there to advise the fledgling entrepreneurs as they pitch their concepts with hopes of securing an investment.

Special appearances throughout the series are planned by fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger; founder and president of the Rodial Group, Maria Hatzistefanis; co-dounder of SoulCycle, Julie Rice; and Jenny Fleiss, co-founder and head of logistics at Rent the Runway, among others.

The series is produced by The Weinstein Company (TWC) and Matador. Bob Weinstein, Harvey WeinsteinPatrick Reardon and Barbara Schneeweiss serve as executive producers for TWC while Jay PetersonTodd Lubin and James Bruce executive produce for Matador. Executive producing for Lifetime are Mary Donahue and David Hillman.
