Game of Thrones star Alfie Allen is slated to front a new two-part docuseries set to reveal the origins and evolution of the world’s most popular sport for A+E Networks UK-owned net History UK.

Produced by Woodcut Media and The Development Partnership, Alfie Allen’s Story of Football (working title) explores the stories, moments and characters that have defined soccer over the past century.

The doc follows Allen (pictured), who attended Arsenal’s youth camp, as he traverses the UK in search of soccer’s roots while discovering how the game evolved through a broad range of themes including fans, stadiums, the English Football Association, leagues, gender, diversity and chants.

The films are directed by Mike Christie and co-produced by Krempelwood Entertainment, which was founded by former Sponsorvision founder Blair Krempel and Sky commercial director Mark Wood.

Alfie Allen’s Story of Football will first broadcast across History in the UK before migrating across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. It will be presented to buyers at the forthcoming MIPCOM market in Cannes by London and LA-based sales house ContentMedia.

The 2 x 60-minute series is exec produced by Woodcut Media’s Derren Lawford, The Development Partnership’s Robert Taylor and A+E Networks UK’s Diana Carter. It was commissioned by Rachel Job, director of programming for History and H2 at A+E Networks UK.
