New York-based news and media organization First Look Media has signed a first-look deal with Inside Amy Schumer co-creator and exec producer Dan Powell.
Under the agreement, Powell will develop a variety of film, TV and digital projects – including unscripted – for the company, which is behind Laura Poitras‘ doc site Field of Vision and investigative news outlet The Intercept.
His first project in development is the short-form animated series The Nib, based on Matt Bors’ political cartoon site, and a short-form scripted series created by Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon writer Cirocco Dunlap. He is also in negotiations to write a feature drama based on a pre-existing property.
“I am very excited to have a first look deal at First Look Media because I like companies that take their names literally,” Powell said in a statement. “Also, I like that they have a smart and energetic team that is determined to create funny, compelling, subversive new content for a variety of platforms.”
Recent First Look non-fiction projects include Poitras’ Julian Assange doc Risk; Morgan Spurlock’s Untitled Patriot Movement Documentary, the weekly podcast Politically ReActive with W. Kamau Bell and Hari Kondabolu; NomiNation, director AJ Schnack’s VanityFair.com doc series on the presidential campaign and its longer-form version, Primaries, which aired on Fusion.
Powell is the latest addition to First Look Media’s development slate, which includes the Antoine Fuqua-produced narrative feature We Do Not Forget starring Daniel Radcliffe and a feature script from writer Oliver Kramer.
