Talk about a perfect match: following a global roll-out, Discovery’s Science Channel’s Droned is taking flight — literally.
Through a deal with Encore Inflight, the Reckognition-produced 10-part series is getting distribution on airliners for in-flight entertainment systems, according to a statement from producer Fred Paik. Hong Kong-based Encore Inflight provides content to more than 100 airliner around the world. This follows the series’ international roll out into nearly 80 countries across Europe, Asia and Africa.
Originally greenlit in May and aired in July, the series follows Fort Lauuderdale-based drone customization firm Pigeon. While drones are increasingly being used in the filmmaking process, this series explores the impact of the fledging tech on the world, from search and rescue to predator drones on the paintball field to tracking and identifying wildlife and drone racing. It was shot on location in Mexico, Barbados, the Bahamas, Canada and the U.S. The show also features high-profile clients, including Tyler Perry, magician Criss Angel and former 98 Degrees member Jeff Timmons.
It is currently seeking second season options, said Paik.
