Viacom has elevated long-time exec Garrett English to the expanded role of executive VP of event programming, specials and news across three of its networks.
English will add oversight of MTV, VH1 and Logo to his purview, managing and directing the creative development surrounding the three networks’ tentpoles, live events and specials. In addition, he will also oversee MTV News.
He reports to Amy Doyle, GM of MTV, VH1 and Logo, in the role.
English joined MTV’s News and Documentaries division in 1995 before being promoted to MTV’s Music/Specials/Events unit producing tentpole event programming.
He would then join MTV Networks International’s team in the UK where he took on the role of head of production and operations for MTV Networks International & MTV Networks Europe.
Most recently, English served as senior VP of programming, specials and news for MTV, where he spearheaded the launch of MTV Documentary Films.
His past credits have included MTV Movie Awards, MTV Video Music Awards and MTV Unplugged.
“Garrett has been indispensable at the helm of nearly every MTV live production for more than a decade, and this new, broader role will make excellent use of his versatility and experience across multiple forms of content,” said Doyle in a statement. “There is no better leader to bring to life the world-class programming and events fans expect from our brands.”
