Discovery Channel has promoted Joseph Boyle to vice-president of production and development for Discovery.

Boyle will continue to be based in Los Angeles and report into Chris Rantamaki, senior vice-president of production and development.

Boyle joined Discovery in 2013, and has been instrumental in shepherding some of the network’s most popular series including the Emmy-winning Deadliest Catch, Naked and Afraid, its spinoff, Naked and Afraid XL, Treasure Quest and, most recently, Cooper’s Treasure.

“Joe’s passion, coupled with his strong track record of cultivating successful series, makes him an important addition to our senior team,” said Denise Contis, EVP of production and development.

Boyle most recently served as senior director of production and development. Prior to joining Discovery, he was a show runner at Original Productions. Boyle has also overseen productions for TLC, Animal Planet, Science Chanel, History, and Syfy.
