Ahead of the premiere of feature-length documentary Hot Grease at DOC NYC on Sunday (Nov. 12), realscreen presents an exclusive clip of the Sam Wainwright Douglas, Paul Lovelace and Jessica Wolfson-directed project.
The 74-minute film follows the rise of biodiesel from a curiosity to a growing industry with the potential to undercut the dominance of Big Oil.
Hot Grease travels to Houston and Washington DC to document those hustling to make an honest living in the growing and entrepreneurial biodiesel industry. As well, the film traces the clean fuel’s future and survival by exposing the story of how the industry is turning recycled cooking oils into a renewable energy source capable of fueling cars, buses and fleets of trucks throughout the United States.
The doc features innovators, entrepreneurs, grease collectors and supporters that include Democratic Senator Al Franken (D-MN); Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA); Justin Heller of Root Fuel; Donnie Tipton of Going Green Grease Recycling; Jim Eberle of Eberle Biodiesel and Gene Gebolys, founder and CEO of World Energy.
Hot Grease will receive its television debut when it airs across American cabler Discovery Channel under the ‘Impact’ banner on Nov. 16 at 9 p.m. ET/PT, immediately following its theatrical premiere on Sunday (Nov. 12) at the IFC Center in New York as part of DOC NYC.
The Discovery ‘Impact’ imprint is focused “on humankind’s impact on the environment” and the solutions available to societies.
Hot Grease is directed and produced by Sam Wainwright Douglas, Paul Lovelace and Jessica Wolfson. Krysanne Katsoolis serves as executive producer alongside Discovery’s John Hoffman. Jon Bardin is supervising producer for Discovery.
