All3Media Int’l brings factual to Canada
Indie distributor All3Media International has secured a range of deals for its factual programming across Canada.
Publicly funded educational network TVO has acquired Blink Films’ two-part fact-ent special Monty Don’s Paradise, which sees the garden expert setting off on a journey to examine how different cultures and climates have influenced garden design.
British Columbia’s Knowledge Network has also taken Monty Don’s Paradise, alongside Lion TV’s hour-long documentary feature Julius Caesar with Mary Beard (w/t) and the latest 5 x 60-minute season of BBC’s Fake Or Fortune.
Canal Evasion, meanwhile, has picked up seasons four and five of Studio Lambert’s format Be My Guest for French-speaking Canada and season one of Nine Network Australia’s Travel Guides.
Further titles heading to the Great White North include betty’s The Undateables for privately owned French language network TVA, to air on speciality channel Moi&Cie; and Lion TV’s hour-long special The Truth About Sleep for Societe Radio Canada.
Specialist SVOD service Hortus TV has taken a raft of garden themed content including season two of The Autistic Gardener, season three of Big Dreams, Small Spaces, season two of Garden Rescue, Kew On A Plate, Love Your Home and Garden, Monty Don’s Paradise Gardens and Titchmarsh on Capability Brown.
ZED sends diverse slate to U.S. market
French producer-distributor ZED has struck a series of deals that will see its content heading to the U.S. market.
Anchoring the deal is the John Maggio-helmed two-part special Korea: The Never-Ending War (52 minutes), which explores the Korean War and examines how the conflict formed the backdrop for the current nuclear risk that North Korea poses. The project is produced by ZED in association with WETA/PBS and has already been pre-sold to more than 10 international broadcasters.
Alongside American specialty SVOD CuriosityStream, ZED will coproduce Ancient Earth (90 minutes; pictured), examining the five mass extinction events on Earth, for primetime on France 5. Delivery is scheduled for the end of the year.
National Geographic, meanwhile, has taken Patrick Jeudy’s The American Dreams of Bobby Kennedy (52 minutes; produced by Cinétévé), which marks the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Robert Kenedy; and David Korn-Bzroza’s Hitler Youth, providing exclusive archived and colorized accounts by former members of the Hitler Youth. The latter project is produced by Zed for France 2 and National Geographic International.
PeopleTV to go inside Hollywood
PeopleTV, the free streaming network helmed by People and Entertainment Weekly, is gearing up to premiere the docuseries Hollywood’s Greatest Untold Stories.
The docuseries will provide an in-depth exploration of some of Hollywood’s unknown, strange and surprising tales. The premiere episode will reveal facts about the entertainment industry’s biggest awards night, weeks before this year’s Academy Awards ceremony.
Entertainment insiders featured include Baz Luhrmann, who dissects host Hugh Jackman’s 2009 musical number; Corey Feldman, who delves into the 1989 Stars of Tomorrow musical number; Hayley Mills, the last-ever recipient of the Academy Juvenile Award; and 11-time Academy Award-winning director Louis J. Horvitz.
Hollywood’s Greatest Untold Stories is based on Entertainment Weekly’s popular franchise of the same name.
