Factual entertainment UHD channel Insight TV has greenlit Droners, a six-part series slated to provide insight into the fast-growing community of drone enthusiasts.
Produced by Zoomin Studios, the 6 x 30-minute series will provide intimate insight into how drone pilots – from New York to Hong Kong, Seoul to Zurich – are influencing the underground droning scene by filming extreme races, stunts and competitions in dangerous locations.
The series will provide an in-depth look into grassroots racing tournaments from across the globe to discover a crop of ascending young pilots.
Each episode of Droners will focus on a different slant of the scene, from holding secretive races in abandoned warehouses to flying “Tiny Whoop” – a small first-person-view aircraft – at competitions in such locations as restaurants and bookstores, and the online freestyle droner community.
Insight’s airing of Droners follows the successes of Zoomin TV’s acclaimed digital series of the same name for Facebook Watch. With Insight, the series will be expanded for television broadcast in 4K UHD/HDR.
Zoomin Studios head Richard Chambers serves as executive producer.
“Droners is a good example of our content strategy; telling the story of a really interesting and rapidly growing community with a focus on the key characters in the droning community around the world, all in the highest quality,” said Arun Maljaars, director of content and channels at Insight TV, in a statement.
“This rapidly-growing sport is becoming a global phenomenon and we’ll shine a spotlight on this new breed of high-tech racers, and the sub-culture around them,” added Chambers.
