YouView CEO Richard Halton will be exiting the hybrid digital television platform at the end of 2018 to pursue new leadership opportunities.

“It has been a fantastic 10 years at the helm of an extraordinary business – one that now shapes the way three million homes find and watch television,” saidĀ Halton in a statement.

The search for a successor has begun, with the aim of achieving a handover period with Halton.

Before becoming CEO of the London-based operation in September 2010, Halton was controller of business strategy at the BBC where he led development of Project Canvas, which became YouView.

“YouView is now a world-class technology platform which blends the best of the UK’s major broadcasters and communication companies with digital OTT services,” said Simon Duffy, chairman of YouView, in a statement. “Richard has been a major contributor to this success, marshalling a unique partnership between YouView’s seven shareholders.”

Launched in the summer of 2012, YouView is a joint venture between BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, BT, TalkTalk and Arqiva.
