FremantleMedia-owned Original Productions has fortified its topline structure with the appointment of former National Geographic Studios executive Brian Lovett.

Lovett joins the Burbank, California-based studio as EVP of production and development, reporting into company president Jeff Hasler. Hasler was appointed to the post in May following a near four-year career at National Geographic Studios.

Lovett boards Original Productions from National Geographic Studios where he most recently served as VP of production and development. During his four-year tenure at Nat Geo’s production arm, Lovett oversaw all facets of production surrounding the studios’ robust slate of series and specials.

With more than 20 years of experience in creating, producing and directing renowned unscripted programming, Lovett’s portfolio of recent credits includes Nat Geo’s longest-running docuseries Explorer, global event series Chain of Command, long-form documentary Breaking 2, and the four-time Emmy nominated StarTalk with Neil deGrasse Tyson.

The hiring marks a homecoming for Lovett, who returns to Original after having previously held prominent roles on several of the company’s highly acclaimed programs. He was part of the original team to create Deadliest Catch, served as series producer on Monster Garage and was showrunner for Lobster Wars.
