Lionsgate-owned network Starz has brought Darren Nielson and Jeff Cooke onto its International Digital Networks team as senior VP of distribution and business and VP of programming, respectively.
Nielson (pictured left) will lead distribution and business development for Starz-branded digital and linear services and channels with a focus on expansion, partnerships and distribution agreements with in-territory partners. He’ll be based out of the company’s Santa Monica office.
Cooke (right) will oversee programming on the Starz direct-to-consumer subscription service with an eye to expanding into new global markets. Also based out of the Santa Monica office, Cooke will tailor content to specific regions, building the Starz brand globally, while working with Brett Marottoli, head of program acquisitions, to add content to the company’s Arabic and Bollywood-centric SVOD platform STARZ PLAY.
The two will work with the International Digital Networks team lead, EVP Superna Kalle.
“Darren and Jeff bring a wealth of global acumen and skill to this international team at a time of significant growth for our company and our brand,” said Kalle, in a statement. “I look forward to exploring new opportunities around the world for our content across digital and linear platforms with them on board.”
Before joining Starz, Nielson served as director of content acquisition at Netflix. Cooke was recently VP of global digital at Lionsgate. Before that, he held positions at Miramax and MGM.
