The Discovery Channel has brought on veteran TV exec Sean Boyle as senior vice president of development.
Boyle (pictured) will be based in Los Angeles, where he will report to Nancy Daniels, chief brand officer of Discovery and factual, and help guide the network’s strategic planning and content direction, as well as execute programming strategies through the development process.
Boyle previously served as VP of development at Discovery until 2015, where he was responsible for greenlighting network flagship franchises Fast N’ Loud and Street Outlaws, before taking on the role of VP of development and production at History, where he has worked since.
At History, Boyle oversaw a wide range of unscripted series and specials and created the annual stunt “Car Week,” which included the successful Evel Live.
Before Discovery and History, he was executive producer and senior director of production and development at VH1.
“Sean knows what it takes to create successful and truly buzz-worthy programming,” said Daniels, in a statement. “His experience in growing and broadening an audience, along with his knowledge of Discovery, make him the perfect choice as Discovery continues to build an even greater slate of programs for on-air and multi-platform.”
