Viacom’s youth-focused network MTV has greenlit a four-episode spin-off of its True Life franchise, set to premiere in 2019.
True Life/Now, will provide a first-person perspective on societal subcultures. Featured will be stories of real people immersed in today’s biggest social phenomena, ranging from celebrity fanaticism to photo filter addiction.
Episode one of the docuseries, titled “Obsessed with Being a Kardashian” will document the lives of three subjects enamored by the Kardashian family and an “unwavering desire” to achieve their levels of success. The episode is produced by Hot Snakes Media.
Lucky 8 TV will produce episode two, titled “Obsessed with the Perfect Booty”. The episode explores the popularity and potential dangers of butt injections by following three individuals who vie to enhance their features.
Part three of the series, “Obsessed with Looking like my Snapchat Filter”, will follow three people that resort to numerous cosmetic procedures in an attempt to look like their edited selfies. Lucky 8 also produces this episode.
The final episode, meanwhile, “Avenging Revenge Porn” from Karga Seven Pictures, examines the stories of three young women in their fight for justice against those who distribute an individual’s sexual photos or videos without their consent.
True Life/Now is scheduled to premiere Jan. 2 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.
