Studio71, a Red Arrow Studios company, has been commissioned for a trio of factual series by British pubcaster BBC.
The female-led series – Fashion Conscious, Period Dramas and Sex in Seconds – are being developed and produced by the UK arm of the global content studio for BBC digital platforms. The projects also feature a variety of rising UK-based talent that explore such contemporary themes as fashion and sustainability, body positivity and sexuality/sexual health.
Anchoring the BBC’s slate is the Grace Mandeville-fronted Fashion Conscious, a six-episode short-form series which looks at the fashion industry’s sustainability issues and possible consumer alternatives. Investigated in the series are such topics as future materials, manufacturing transparency and environmental issues, while providing viewers with tips to change their habits.
Sexual health-focused Sex In Seconds, meanwhile, will be hosted by Florence Barkway and Reed Amber (pictured) of the podcast Come Curious, and features a cast of young people who discuss their own experiences and attitudes in the hopes of removing the confusion and stigmas surrounding sex.
Finally, the six-part Period Dramas will feature 12 budding British female comedians as they present unfiltered stories about periods. The series will aim to break apart this taboo subject, while providing viewers with laughs and have them relate to each open and honest story.
All three BBC series have gone into production and will bow in early 2019. Sex in Seconds is the first series to be released from the three, launching on Feb. 12 and running every Tuesday thereafter.
The series are executive produced by Studio71 UK creative director Jody Smith. The commissioning editor for the BBC is Daisy Griffith.
Fashion Conscious, Period Dramas and Sex in Seconds will be available across BBC iPlayer, YouTube and social.
