Kino Lorber-owned distributor Alive Mind Cinema has acquired the North American rights to Jake Clennell’s feature documentary about the life and teachings of B.K.S. Iyengar, a leader in popularizing yoga in the Western world.
Built around cinéma vérité footage of the spiritual leader, Iyengar: The Man, Yoga, The Student’s Journey provides an intimate portrait of Iyengar’s personal yoga practice and how a variety of his students use the ancient practice to transform their lives. Additionally, the doc explores the legacy and influence of Iyengar’s teachings and their social impact, from programs to support orphaned children to rehab groups helping those in addiction recovery.
Director Clennell reveals the power of Iyengar’s teachings through interviews with his family, students and the man himself who passed away in August 2014.
Iyengar: The Man, Yoga, The Student’s Journey was an official selection of the Vancouver International Film Festival. The documentary was made with the support and cooperation of Iyengar and his family, the Iyengar Yoga National Association of the United States, and students and supporters worldwide.
Iyengar: The Man, Yoga, The Student’s Journey will have a theatrical on demand release via Gathr Films starting April 19.
