Toronto-headquartered content producer and distributor Boat Rocker Media has taken an undisclosed stake in California-based talent management and production company Untitled Entertainment.
The U.S. company, founded in 1999 by Jason Weinberg and Stephanie Simon, is best known for its talent-management business, with the company representing high-profile talent including Gillian Anderson, Connie Britton, Penelope Cruz, Matt Dillon, Minnie Driver, Jane Fonda, Naomie Harris, Ray Liotta, Ricky Martin, Mandy Moore, Mike Myers, Chris Rock, Liev Schreiber, Naomi Watts and Ruth Wilson. It has offices in L.A., New York, and London.
A joint press release from the companies said Untitled plans to use the investment to grow all areas of its business, with a particular focus on expanding its operations in film, TV and digital production. The company also said it will use the investment to make new hires, with its senior management team remaining unchanged.
While financial terms were not disclosed, Boat Rocker described the transaction as a “meaningful investment,” adding that the partnership will give Untitled access to Boat Rocker’s full-service global studio infrastructure.
This is latest in a string of globally focused acquisitions made by Boat Rocker. Less than four months ago, the company acquired LA-based producer Matador Content, which counts Lip Sync Battle (Paramount Network) among its list of credits. Boat Rocker has previously invested in other U.S.-based companies, including New York-based media company MarcoPolo Learning and The Outline, a digital media company founded by Joshua Topolsky.
Outside the U.S., Boat Rocker has continued to be an active acquirer of other companies in the content-production and rights business. In 2018 it acquired the kids and family entertainment division of UK-headquartered Fremantle and later acquired a majority stake in Insight Productions.
