The Edinburgh TV Awards, part of the Edinburgh TV Festival, are now open for entry submissions and include three new awards categories.
The awards celebrate achievement in television production both on and off screen.
This year’s new categories are Small Indie of the Year, UK Broadcaster VOD of the Year and Online Channel of the Year. These are meant to recognize online content and smaller prodcos.
The categories open to non-fiction production are Channel of the Year, Best Specialist Channel, UK Broadcaster VOD of the Year, Online Channel of the Year, Production Company of the Year, Small Indie of the Year, Best Documentary Programme, Best Popular Factual Series, Best Entertainment Series and Best Breakthrough Talent.
The deadline for first round entries for all categories is noon GMT on May 10. Late entries will be accepted until midnight GMT on May 17, subject to a 30% late fee.
Additionally, the TV Moment of the Year category will remain open from June and August 22, the day of the awards ceremony. This category is voted for exclusively via the festival app.
“We know the impact winning awards can have which is why we wanted to open up entries to the raft of start-ups and smaller indies, particularly in the nations and regions, who are rarely recognized alongside their super-indie counterparts,” said Edinburgh TV Festival director Lisa Campbell in a statement. “We’re judging talent not turnover and look forward to receiving entries from the most innovative and nimble players in TV and online.”
The festival takes place Aug. 21 to 23 at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre, with additional screening at the Filmhouse and parties at venues around the city.
