London-headquartered Chalkboard Television has tapped former BBC factual controller Natalie Humphreys to lead its newly minted Scottish outfit Storyboard Studios.
Storyboard will develop and produce new content for UK and international partners, while also partnering with Chalkboard on current and original programming. The company currently has significant funded projects in development for major broadcasters.
Storyboard is being launched by Humphreys and Chalkboard founder and director Mike Benson. Storyboard, along with Chalkboard, are part of the indie production group, IZEN, which also includes Elephant from France, Zebra from Spain and iMagic from the Middle East.
Before joining Storyboard Studios, Humphreys served as UK controller of factual and daytime at British pubcaster BBC. Her remit also included BBC’s Natural History Unit and the broadcaster’s flagship early-evening magazine and chat show, The One Show. During her tenure, BBC’s factual team garnered a number of BAFTA and Royal Television Society awards for, among others, BBC1′s live-TV event Big Blue Live.
Prior to the BBC, Humphreys held the post of specialist factual at Shine Television. In her more than two decades of working across factual production, she has developed and executive produced original content for numerous UK and global broadcasters, including ITV, PBS, Discovery and National Geographic.
Joining Humphreys (pictured) at the Glasgow-based Storyboard Studios will be the recently appointed John Willers as series producer. Additional hires will be announced shortly.
“We see the launch of Storyboard as a natural evolution of the exceptional productions Chalkboard has already made in Glasgow,” said Humphreys in a statement. “It also signals our intent to commit 100% to Scotland and its creative community. For me personally, Glasgow is my home and I’m passionate about creating world-class content here.”
