MGM Television has launched a new unscripted outfit focused on the global distribution and international development of the studios’ format content.
Former Mark Burnett Productions executives Scot Cru (pictured, left) and Patrice Choghi (right) have once again teamed with Mark Burnett, chairman of MGM Television. The pair will now shepherd MGM Global Formats & Unscripted Content, working across all international format and business development.
The move marks a quick turnaround for Cru, who left his post as president of Sherman Oaks-based indie prodco and distributor GRB Studios earlier this week. He was tapped for that role last October after serving as president of GRB’s international sales and distribution. Choghi also comes to the MGM fold from GRB Studios, where he was appointed by Cru and served as the company’s SVP of international.
MGM’s new division, meanwhile, will be responsible for the international distribution of the studios’ formats, fostering relationships with international producers and aligning international production to support MGM’s current distribution platform.
Cru will lead the division in addition to serving as executive vice president, reporting to Barry Poznick, president of unscripted television. Meanwhile, Choghi joins the new outfit as senior vice president. The duo will work closely with Chris Ottinger, president of worldwide television distribution and acquisitions, and in support of the distribution team worldwide.
“I’ve known Scot for more than 20 years,” said Burnett in a statement. “He is a consummate dealmaker who has a stellar reputation with broadcasters and producers around the world. I’m so happy to be working with him and Patrice again as we move to grow our business internationally.”
