Viacom-owned MTV UK has commissioned a docuseries featuring documentary filmmaker, writer and director Reggie Yates.

Reggie Yates vs. The World (w/t) will see Yates (pictured) tackling the issues that affect youth today by experiencing them first-hand, immersing himself in each week’s subject as much as possible.

The 8 x 60-minute series was commissioned by Kelly Bradshaw and Antony Rochford, VP and director of programming, respectively, at MTV UK. It is coproduced by Flicker Productions and Krempelwood, with Iestyn Barker, head of development at MTV International (for MTV UK), serving as executive producer.

Filming has been underway in eight locations across the world since March, ahead of airing later this year on MTV UK at an unspecified date.

“While reality TV remains a key priority for MTV, broadening out the genre mix is an important part of our program strategy”, said Bradshaw, in a statement. “We’re delighted to have Reggie on board — his authentic voice and ability to get under the skin of a variety of subject matters makes him the perfect choice to help bring a new dynamic to the schedule.”

“The documentary genre is one that I’m hugely passionate about and have learned so much about myself and the world through,” added Yates. “In this series I’ll encounter challenging situations and bring new insight into just some of the areas affecting young people all over the world.”
