Former BBC commissioning executive Nick Shearman has been appointed to lead the factual growth of Welsh factual indie Wildflame Productions.

In the role, Shearman (pictured) will work alongside Wildflame’s production team with responsibility for nurturing emerging talent and expanding the company’s factual offering for the UK and international markets.

As a former BBC commissioning editor, Shearman has been responsible for series such as The London Markets, Bruce Parry’s Arctic and Nature’s Microworlds.

Shearman has worked at a range of UK indies, having launched a Bristol office for Tiger Aspect in 1998 before joining RDF as an executive producer in 2002, leaving for Eyeworks and re-joining the BBC in 2008. He would join Keo Films in 2012 to head up the production unit’s West offices in Bristol.

Most recently, as a freelance executive, Shearman produced the first season of Blast! Films’ The Supervet for Channel 4, Lola’s John Bishop’s Australia for BBC1 and Rize’s The Billion-Pound Hotel for C4.
