Former Gobstopper Television executive Chris Broughall has joined London- and Los Angeles-based prodco Renowned Films, a division of Critical Content, as head of development, effective immediately.

Broughall will be based in the company’s London offices with oversight for the studio’s development strategy while expanding Renowned’s push into formatted factual entertainment. He reports directly to company co-founder Tim Withers.

Prior to joining Renowned, Broughall served as head of development at Manchester and London-based indie Gobstopper Television. Joining in August 2018, Broughall was responsible for pitching a variety of fact-ent and entertainment formats, including Channel 4′s The Surjury and BBC3′s Surgery on Show, and was series edit producer for MTV’s Just Tattoo of Us.

Prior to Gobstopper, he was a development producer for Simon Cowell‘s Syco Entertainment (X-Factor, Britain’s Got Talent), and was also part of the development team at Shed Media and Monkey Kingdom.

“Chris is a dynamic, creative powerhouse – it’s a major win to have him join the team,” said company founders Max Welch, Duane Jones and Tim Withers in a joint statement. “We’re excited to push the next generation of formats, IP and entertainment for the UK and U.S. market with him at the lead.”
