The Grierson Trust has unveiled the shortlist for this year’s Grierson Awards, with Three Identical Strangers (pictured), Drowning in Plastic and Nadiya: Anxiety And Me, receiving multiple nominations.
The Griersons employ a two-stage judging process. Juries comprised of doc-makers, broadcasters, critics and subject experts will now review the shortlisted nominations to arrive at the final four nominations, including the winner, in each category. The 105 shortlisted films and eight presenters will now go forward to final nominations and judging, with the 47th annual awards ceremony taking place on November 14 in London.
Of the 105 projects on this year’s shortlist, the BBC came out on top with 52 entries in the running. Channel 4 follows behind with 17, Netflix has 12 projects in the running, ITV has three films listed with ITV2 making a shortlist debut alongside RT and Amazon Prime. Channel 5 has one film.
