HBO is slated to debut Alternate Endings: Six New Ways to Die in America, a documentary that aims to shine a positive light on the dark subject of death.

As previously announced, the documentary chronicles the lives of people nearing death, as well as family members of the recently deceased. The individuals rethink traditional burials and remembrances, opting for living wakes, green burials, medical-aid-in-dying and extraterrestrial burials.

Alternate Endings: Six New Ways to Die in America offers insight into changing attitudes around end-of-life as baby boomers approaching death seek to take control of their circumstances.

The documentary is directed and produced by Matthew O’Neil and Perri Peltz. Sheila Nevins and Jacqueline Glover are executive producers, and Leah Williams and Xochitl Dorsey serve as producers.

Alternate Endings: Six New Ways to Die in America premieres Aug. 14 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on HBO, and will also be made available on HBO Now, HBO Go, HBO on Demand and partners’ streaming platforms.
