BBC Studios, the commercial production arm of UK pubcaster the BBC, has named Paul Dempsey head of global distribution.
Dempsey (pictured) will have responsibility for BBC Studios’ overall sales and distribution strategy, key customer management and international channels and services. He will relocate to New York to assume the role in September.
Reporting to Dempsey will be BBC Studios’ president of the Americas (currently being recruited to succeed Ann Sarnoff, who exited earlier this year for Warner Bros.), the managing director of Australia and New Zealand, and the EVPs of Asia, Western Europe and CEMA.
Dempsey joined BBC Worldwide in 1998 as UK sales director. He served as interim CEO of BBC Worldwide before Tim Davie took up the position of CEO in 2013. He currently serves as president of global content in London.
“Bringing together our international regions, while maintaining a strong regional focus, continues the evolution of our global distribution business and particularly the way we serve major customers,” said BBC Studios CEO Tim Davie in a statement. “We are fortunate to have someone of Paul’s immense experience to take this important role.”
“Having visibility across all our customer relationships and international distribution activity will make us more joined up and effective both globally and regionally,” added Dempsey.
