UK commercial broadcaster Channel 5 has commissioned a new entertainment travel format from London-based prodco Rumpus Media.

Weekend Breaks with Gregg Wallace (w/t; 4 x 60 minutes) will follow the MasterChef host (pictured) as he heads to a new city each week — from Rome to Amsterdam to Berlin to Barcelona. He’ll spend time in each city enjoying the culture, history and local cuisine.

The series is produced by Rumpus Media. Fintan Maguire will serve as executive producer, with Simon Arnold serving as series producer. It was commissioned by Daniel Pearl, commissioning editor for Channel 5.

“Two of my great loves are food and travel, so to visit some of my favorite cities and explore new ones for this Channel 5 series is just brilliant,” said Wallace in a statement.

“Gregg is well known for his food expertise but people may not know that he has a great passion for history. This series sees him combine the two, as he takes us on long weekends in some of Europe’s greatest cities,” added Maguire, EP and head of popular factual at Rumpus Media. “In his own fun, curious and inimitable style he’ll take us on a thoroughly enjoyable and revealing whirlwind tour of each destination.”
