Participant-owned media and entertainment company SoulPancake has set a premiere date for its feature documentary Laughing Matters, revealed at the company’s NewFronts West presentation on Wednesday (Sept. 11).
Laughing Matters, originally titled It’s Not That Funny, was previously set to premiere in May, but Realscreen has learned that the release was delayed to allow more production time for additional talent who wanted to participate in the film.
The doc is produced in partnership with comedy website and prodco Funny or Die and features SoulPancake co-founder and The Office alum Rainn Wilson, Sarah Silverman, Wayne Brady, Rachel Bloom, Anna Akana and more discussing comedy, mental health and “the relationship between comedy and depression and the cost of bringing others joy,” according to a release.
It is directed by Mike Bernstein and premieres Oct. 10, Mental Health Awareness Day, on the SoulPancake YouTube channel and on Funny or Die.
SoulPancake also revealed that the company will be co-producing the fourth season of PBS’s food series The Migrant Kitchen and airing the first three seasons digitally through SoulPancake.
Finally, the company unveiled its new status on Google-owned streamer YouTube, granting it full control of its inventory to seek out brand partnerships independently.
