London-based indie Bigger Bang has secured its third SVOD commission from American documentary-focused platform CuriosityStream to produce the blue chip series Secrets of the Solar System (working title).
The eight episode series, distributed globally by UK-based Fremantle, takes viewers on a journey through the solar system, featuring access to the world’s space agencies, their data, images and personnel.
Starting with a ‘Grand Tour,’ episodes focus on the Sun, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, the Asteroid Belt, Pluto and the Outer Planets, including interviews with people who have carried out missions to these places.
“Secrets of the Solar System (w/t) is the remarkable story of the world beyond us, told by the amazing people who sent missions there,” Iain Riddick, joint MD and creative director at Bigger Bang, said in a statement. “Organized as a grand geographical travelogue, it covers the greatest set of journeys ever taken, spanning hundreds of millions of kilometers and building into the ultimate guide. This isn’t just a stunningly beautiful science series, it tells the lesser-known stories of the incredible sacrifices that were made to bring this information back to Earth for all humanity.”
The series, commissioned by Steve Burns at CuriosityStream, is executive produced by Ben Bowie and Riddick for Bigger Bang.
