National Geographic has entered a first-look deal with Free Solo filmmakers Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin’s Little Monster Films to develop documentary features, unscripted series and specials.

Nat Geo also greenlit the team’s next feature documentary, with details to be announced at a later date.

The deal marks Little Monster Films’ first expansion beyond feature documentaries, encompassing development of unscripted ideas for all of Nat Geo’s television platforms.

Vasarhelyi (pictured left) and Chin (right) have tapped Anna Barnes, formerly an executive at film financing and distribution company Cinetic Media, to serve as vice president of development and production under the venture.

Barnes will work closely with Vasarhelyi and Chin in identifying, developing and producing new projects.

“National Geographic offered unconditional support and enthusiasm for Free Solo from day one, and we truly could not have asked for better partners,” Vasarhelyi and Chin said in a joint statement.

The news follows Free Solo‘s Oscar win in February and recent Emmy sweep, where the documentary won in seven categories for which it was nominated, including directing honors for Vasarhelyi and Chin.
