Glasgow-based factual indie Two Rivers Media has appointed former STV Group executive Rob Woodward as chair of its board.
Woodward’s appointment will reunite him and Two Rivers’ founder and managing director Alan Clements, when the former takes up his role on Dec. 1. Woodward and Clements worked together for nine years at STV,
Woodward was formerly CEO of STV Group and founding trustee of the STV Children’s appeal.
During his 10-year tenure at STV, Woodward led the Scottish free-to-air broadcaster’s turnaround and positioned the company as the region’s leading commercial digital media company before his departure in December 2017.
Woodward additionally serves as on a range of boards including being appointed as chair of The Met Office by the UK government; chair of Court of Glasgow Caledonian University; chair of the software firm Blancco; and chair of marketing services company Ebiquity.
Two Rivers Media was formed in January by veteran TV exec Clements with the intent to produce a diverse slate of content, including factual, daytime series and features, entertainment shows and scripted. With backing from Kew Media, Noble Grossart and Channel 4′s Indie Growth Fund, the prodco primarily focuses on the Scottish, UK and international marketplaces.
The nascent Scottish production outfit has already received a range of commissions, including Channel 5′s The Small Hand (working title), BBC2′s Frankie Boyle’s Tour of Scotland (w/t), and BBC Scotland’s Children of the Devolution. The company is also currently in advanced development on a number of projects for UK broadcasters.
“Two Rivers is perfectly poised to take advantage of the growing appetite for exceptional quality programming made outside of London,” said Woodward in a statement. “In a very short space of time, Alan has assembled an exceptional senior creative team who are dynamic, passionate and creatively innovative. I’m impressed with Two Rivers’ collective drive and ambition to build a multi-genre company of scale to serve the Scottish, UK and international markets based in Glasgow. With much of the industry’s ambitions now being focused in the nations and regions, Two Rivers is perfectly positioned, not just in terms of location but also in terms of outstanding experience.”
“It is fantastic to have the opportunity to work with Rob again. Not only does he have a successful business track record, he is experienced at operating at the highest levels of the media industry, so is a very exciting appointment for Two Rivers. His commercial and leadership skills will play a key role in helping us move the company to the next stage of its development,” added Clements.
