Japanese multi-platform broadcaster Nippon TV has entered into a co-development partnership with London-based global investor and distributor The Story Lab.
The strategic deal, announced at the Asian Television Forum in Singapore on Dec. 4, will see the two media giants creating and developing scalable and returnable non-scripted entertainment formats for international sales.
Both Nippon and The Story Lab will handle international distribution.
The first project arising from the partnership will be announced shortly.
Nippon TV has seen recent format successes with its game show Block Out produced in Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia, while The Story Lab has most recently inked co-development deals and produced such entertainment properties as the social experiment You Are Not a Loan and dating series Undercover Twins.
“Matching up with The Story Lab was meant to be. Our shared vision of blending our values to create formats with global appeal has been a mutual agenda for a long time,” said Shigeko Cindy Chino (pictured right), associate MD of international business development for Nippon TV, in a statement. “With their support and expertise, we anticipate an explosive chemistry between The Story Lab’s global reach and Nippon TVs time-proven creativity.”
