Discovery Channel is digging into the off-the-grid prospecting factual series Reclaimed from Colorado-based Dorsey Pictures, a division of Red Arrow Studios.

Each episode of the series will follow expert builders and miners Alex Charvat and Kevin Gilman (pictured) as they visit dormant mining claims – snapped up by homesteaders for pennies on the dollar – to assess the property’s current value while negotiating for a share of the mine’s profits in exchange for improving their piece of real estate.

With their backgrounds in engineering, mountaineering, mining and forestry, Charvat and Gilman will help “wannabe prospectors and desperate homesteaders resurrect these claims of land.” The long-time friends will work together to transform each property between the mountains of Colorado to the desert of Arizona into thriving mining operations worth more than their original purchase price.

Executive producers for Dorsey Pictures include Chris Dorsey and Matt Assmus. Discovery Channel’s John Feld is executive producer, with Paola Espinosa serving as associate producer.

The series makes up part of Discovery’s new night of programming dubbed ‘Off the Grid Thursdays,’ which also includes new episodes of Homestead Rescue, launching Jan. 2 at 8 p.m. ET/PT, followed by a new season of Building Off the Grid beginning Jan. 9 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.

Reclaimed premieres Jan. 9 at 9 p.m. ET/PT as part of Discovery Channel’s ‘Off the Grid Thursdays’ block.
