Mobile-first, educational entertainment media company ATTN: has partnered with plus-size model and body-positivity advocate Ashley Graham on a new series about body image and the media.
Secret Messages tracks the subliminal messages advertisers send to reinforce stereotypical body images, offering tips to be more media literate and combat stigmas around body diversity.
The eight-part series sees Graham (pictured) talk to researchers, dieticians, historians and psychologists to unpack the harmful effects of body shaming. Each episode focuses on a different topic, diving deep into topics like corporate social responsibility, aging, dieting and New Year’s Resolutions.
Secret Messages is produced by ATTN: in partnership with Pretty Big Deal Productions. Graham serves as host and executive producer.
“Throughout the decade and more specifically over the past few years, those leading and supporting the body positivity movement have encouraged us to accept and celebrate our bodies as they are, yet we are still constantly bombarded with subliminal advertising that makes us feel not good enough or question our body type,” said Graham in a statement. “This series with ATTN: calls out body shaming where we see it, making everyone more aware and equipped with tools to feel confident in their own skin.”
“There is no better champion for authenticity or body positivity than Ashley Graham,” added ATTN:’s head of originals, Mike Vainisi. “When social media can often be a place for shaming and negativity, we’re thrilled to be working with Ashley to bring this series to life to give people the information they need to confront these messages confidently.”
Secret Messages premieres Dec. 26 on Facebook Watch.
