Former First Lady Michelle Obama and her Reach Higher initiative have partnered with mobile-first educational entertainment media company ATTN: on a new series aimed at empowering first-year college students for Instagram’s video app IGTV.
A Year of Firsts seeks to empower and inspire students entering college throughout America, telling their stories across six episodes. ATTN: will work directly with four students in different states, documenting their first year and exploring issues like the academic stress of college, making new friends, college affordability, and physical and mental health while in college.
The series is produced by ATTN: in partnership with Reach Higher — the organization founded by Obama (pictured, top center) to inspire and support students to pursue higher education.
“As a first-generation college student myself, I know how intimidating it can be to take that leap and pursue your educational dreams,” said Obama in a statement. “That’s why I’m so proud of these students. By sharing their stories, they’re helping others see that the ups and downs of the first year of college are something everyone goes through — and they’re creating a supportive community for others facing similar challenges.”
A Year of Firsts will premiere in mid-January on IGTV and conclude in June, 2020, at the end of year one.
