Multi-platform media company Red Bull Media House has appointed former National Geographic executive Bernadette McDaid as global head of content development, Realscreen has confirmed.

In the new role, McDaid (pictured) will be tasked with expanding Red Bull’s global programming output. Previously based in London, McDaid will relocate to Salzburg, Austria, when she joins the global media firm on Monday (Jan. 20).

McDaid most recently served as acting head of development and programming for National Geographic before her December 2019 departure. During her two-year tenure, she was responsible for overseeing global premium content development and programming out of the broadcaster’s London office. She joined Nat Geo in 2017 as commissioning editor where she was tasked with developing and overseeing major premium series and event programming for global distribution.

Prior, McDaid served as head of programming at Discovery-backed Science Channel in the U.S. for eight years. There, she was responsible for overseeing such factual successes as four-time Emmy-nominated Through the Wormhole with Morgan Freeman and the Emmy-nominated Rising: Rebuilding Ground Zero with Steven Spielberg.

Launched in 2007, Red Bull Media House specializes in producing and licensing a selection of sports, culture and lifestyle content, with original short- and long-form programming as well as feature films from around the world. In the content sphere, the company owns and operates Vienna, Austria-based factual prodco Terra Mater Factual Studios, Austrian television network ServusTV, and global multi-platform channel Red Bull TV.
