Global tech and media giant Apple has commissioned biographical docuseries Dear… from Emmy and Peabody Award-winner R.J. Cutler and Los Angeles-based Matador Content for its subscription streaming service, Apple TV+.
The 10-episode docuseries, inspired by Apple’s Dear Apple spots, will take an “inventive and cinematic approach” to biographies of today’s most iconic figures by using letters written by those whose lives have been changed through their work.
Famous faces profiled throughout the series will include Oprah Winfrey, Gloria Steinem, Spike Lee, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Yara Shahidi, Stevie Wonder, Aly Raisman, Misty Copeland and Big Bird among others.
Dear… was announced as part of Apple’s first-ever Television Critics Association winter press tour.
Dear… will debut across the Apple TV+ streaming service on June 5.
The streaming service most recently acquired Spike Jonze’s Beastie Boys Story, a feature-length documentary about seminal hip hop group The Beastie Boys. The film is set to premiere at the 2020 SXSW Film Festival.
