Veteran Discovery Inc. executive Marc Etkind is leaving his post as general manager of Science Channel, Realscreen has confirmed.

During Etkind’s four-year oversight of Science Channel, the network achieved its highest ratings to date. Under his watch the network has aired such programming as Mysteries of the Abandoned, Unearthed, How The Universe Works, the reboot of BattleBots and a new series featuring MythBuster Adam Savage, Savage Builds.

While it is unknown if or when there will be a search for another general manager, it is also confirmed that Scott Lewers, EVP of multi-platform programming and digital media will take expanded oversight of the net.

Before Science Channel, Etkind previously served as general manager for Destination America, launching the network with such content as  BBQ Pitmasters , Railroad Alaska, Mountain Monsters, United States of Bacon, and Buying Hawaii.

Prior to that, Marc was VP of development for Animal Planet, where he helped usher in such programming as  Pit Bulls and Parolees and  Finding Bigfoot.
