Escapade Media sells Crash Test World to Discovery
Distributor Escapade Media has sold the first TV series from the educational web video company ProjectExplorer, to Discovery in the U.S and Canada.
Produced by Intuitive Content, Crash Test World (pictured) is a 6 x 30-minute series hosted by Mythbusters presenter Kari Bryon. Episodes will feature young people across Berlin, New York City, Qatar and more as they explore and examine global issues.
Crash Test World is funded by Qatar Foundation International, Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Foundation, and Amazon web services.
ProjectExplorer has been providing free video content since 2003, which aims to use media to educate on how to grow up globally competent and culturally aware.
Zed announces pre-sales for Iraq documentary series
Iraq: Destruction of a Nation is a 4 x 52-minute series that spans 40 years of conflict, from the Iran-Iraq war in 1980 to the fall of ISIS and beyond, and French distributor Zed has pre-sold it to Histoire, ZDF, Radio Canada, NRK and RSI.
The event series features interviews with the leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Masoud Barzani; and Doug Feith, the under-secretary of Defense for Policy for U.S. President George W. Bush. The filmmakers also followed a Sunni family based in Mosul, the father who was in Saddam Hussein’s army during the Gulf War in 1991, one of his children who fought for Hussein in 2003, and another who joined ISIS.
Produced by Tohubohu and Slug News for France Télévisions, and directed by Jean- Pierre Canet, the series is scheduled for a delivery in November 2020.
Brazil’s SBT snaps up more Keep It or Lose It
Brazilian broadcaster SBT has ordered seasons six and seven of the Karga Seven-created lifestyle game show.
Distributed by Global Agency, Keep It or Lose It also broadcasts in Kazakhstan and Turkey.
In Brazil, the weekly show is known as Comprar e bon levar e melhor. The premise is a game show where you choose the prizes from the shopping mall, and then are faced with seven questions in the quiz corner. If contestants answer correctly, they keep the prize.
Harbour Rights sends wildlife titles across Asia
Hong Kong-based distributor Harbour Rights has licensed Fear on the Savannah and The Lucky Zebra to KBS in South Korea. Both are produced by Ampersand.
Discovery Channel Asia has bought the pre-acquisition of The Pearl River Delta: China’s Greater Bay, a 4 x 52-minute culture and travel sequel from the producer of Macau From Above.
In package deals, Thailand’s True Vision acquired 40 hours of content, including Too Young to Die, about well-known icons, and a series on the most beautiful and unusual vineyards, On the Wine Road; while TVB and VTV in Vietnam picked up an 80-hour package that includes wildlife, history and lifestyle titles.
