Filmmaker Christopher Everett has begun production on the sequel to his award-winning 2015 feature-length documentary Wilmington, about the 1889 massacre in Wilmington, North Carolina and the only successful coup in U.S. history.

Titled Wilmington on Fire: Chapter II, the follow-up film will focus on present-day Wilmington and documents a new generation of community grassroots organizers and politicians in their fight for justice, equality and reparations in addressing the coup d’état that occurred more than 120 years ago on American soil.

A tentative release date for Wilmington on Fire: Chapter II is slated for November 2021.

The film is produced by Everett’s (pictured) Speller Street Films and executive produced by One Tree Hill actress Hilarie Burton Morgan.
