Cineflix acquires factual series from UK, North America

UK distributor Cineflix Rights has bolstered its summer slate with the acquisition of four factual series from the UK and North America.

Wizard of Paws (pictured; 11 x 30 minutes; Nomadica Films for BYUtv; U.S.) follows pet prosthetics pioneer Derrick Campana as he gives troubled animals a second chance with limbs and takes their owners on an emotional journey as their bionic pets get a new lease on life.

Believers (8 x 60 minutes; Karga Seven Pictures for Travel Channel; U.S.) features the accounts of people who have experienced paranormal events, weaving together interviews, archival footage and cinematic recreations.

From Hoff Productions for Reelz in the U.S., Ted Bundy: The Survivors (4 x 60 minutes) tells the story of the notorious serial killer through the perspective of women who survived.

Finally, Lost Treasures of Egypt (6 x 60 minutes; Windfall Films for National Geographic International, Channel 4 UK, RMC Décoverte France, and SBS Australia) offers access to modern-day archaeological explorers as they unearth relics from the Great Pyramids to the Valley of the Kings and beyond.

Juno Films secures worldwide rights for Morgana

Boutique distributor and global sales agent Juno Films has acquired the worldwide rights (excluding Australia and New Zealand) to Josie Hess and Isabel Peppard’s feature-length documentary Morgana.

The announcement comes as the film enjoys its North American launch during Fantasia Festival in Montreal.

The 71-minute film follows Morgana, who after 20 years as a housewife stuck in a loveless, sexless marriage, decides to book a male escort before killing herself. Her story takes a turn after her night with the escort opens up a new world of freedom. Shot over five series, Morgana chronicles her journey toward sex positivity.

It combines intimate interview and vérité footage with Morgana Muses, handmade miniature elements, animation, archival footage, and Morgana’s own erotica films.

Karina Astrup serves as producer. Release plans will be announced at a later date.

108 Media takes rights to Fearless docuseries

Global distribution firm 108 Media has acquired the international sales rights to premium sports docuseries Fearless: Rise of the Johor Southern Tigers.

The film charts the climb of six-time Malaysian Super League champions Johor Darul Ta’zim.

Filmed during the 2019/20 season, Fearless highlights — through the personalities of the JDT team and their fans — the boardroom politics and the footballers’ struggles both on and off the pitch, and how the team built its legacy to stake a claim in the world of football.

The 5 x 22-minute series is co-directed by Leon Tan and Tony Pietra Arjuna, and produced by Supernova Media, based in Kuala Lumpur. The project comprises English language narration and subtitles.
